Police Governance and Accountability
Recent research carried out by the Northern Ireland Policing Board compared policing governance and accountability in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, France, and the United States, with current arrangements in England and Wales.
The research found there is no evidence to suggest that boards or commissions appointed by elected mayors in the USA truly reflect the communities they serve. The research also found that there has been consistent movement in the USA towards making police oversight more independent through the introduction of models similar to those already established in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Please find the comparitive research here: Police Governance and Accountability.
