Association of Police Authorities and Home Office Joint Guidance

This section contains guidance, jointly endorsed by the Association of Police Authorities and the Home Office, to help selection panels and police authorities undertake their important roles in the selection of independent members.

This guidance will supplement, but not supplant, the statutory requirements impacting on any selection round.  The statutory requirements are, in any case, set out in the guidance.  But more than this, the guidance is intended to help selection panels and police authorities plan and deliver a successful selection process.  Please find the guidance below (to access the word version please login, click here, and then click on the Independent Member Banner to return to this page):

Equal Opportunities
All police authorities are firmly committed to a policy of equal opportunities. They welcome applications from all eligible persons irrespective of ethnic origin, religious belief, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other irrelevant factor. Police authorities want their independent members to represent as wide a range of people as possible.
